[ Probably important to mention that. He'll arrive in the morning, dressed in a t-shirt and sweats and looking a little unkempt but it's very early, in his defense, and he has trouble sleeping when he's at his apartment. It's barely noticeable! Probably.

But he rings the bell just as asked. It is indeed an old-fashioned bell, but he can't say he's all that surprised. They didn't specify a time, but farms tend to start work early, so he imagines he's quite late by those standards. ]

[Doumeki! It sounds Japanese to Konoha's ears, but she's learned better in Lunatia than to just assume it without asking. And she much prefers asking things in person than over the strange network device, so!

Almost everything about Tsurugi Farmstead is outdated compared to the Prismal-run farms around it, and especially compared to the city proper. There's no robots, no automated machinery, no fancy greenhouses, just fields, a thatched roof storehouse, and a wooden home...]

[And the sound of... hooves? on wood following the ringing of the bell, the only warning her guest has before the proprietress comes into view. She's really tall for a woman, about seven feet if you counted the bun atop her head, but... the hindquarters of a bay mare that make up her lower half surely explains that.

Tucking some half-repaired leathers into the pockets of her apron, she gives a little bow of greeting before straightening back up with a smile and a curious cock of her head.]

Good morning! Are you Master Doumeki?

[He'd said he'd come by that morning, so surely... ?]

[ With the sound of hooves, Doumeki had expected, well, a horse. He's not the most expressive guy, but even he looks surprised when Konoha opens the door, all seven feet of her. Doumeki is pretty tall at over six feet, but even he has to crane his neck to look her in the eye. ]

[Thankfully? Konoha has grown quite used to surprising people with how she looks, even though she still finds it a bit odd after coming from a world in which her existence wasn't any more or less surprising than a human's. (Considered less than a human, by some, but that was... different.)]

But despite being a centaur, Konoha actually does seem like... just your average woman, in some way, dressed in simple homespun kimono and delightfully refreshing in her simplicity amidst a sea of electronics, metals, and the world's strange mix of magic and technology.]

[ Doumeki's a little awkward, especially around what you might consider 'normal' people, so he's really trying to... not be intimidating here. It really is refreshing to see someone like Konoha though. Minus the centaur thing, he could picture her just about anywhere back home, waiting in line for groceries... just a sweet lady.

If she says she's from Japan, he believes her. He's already aware that there are simply different kinds out there. ]

I do not recognize Genna... is that before the Edo period?

[ Just going by the decor, he would guess it has to be post-Kamakura, right? He was never bright in school, so he's kind of pulling at strings. He looks up as he runs the numbers in his head. Heisei, Showa, Taisho, Meiji... when did Tokugawa start again? ]

[Ah, yes. The weird Gregorian calendar. Counting on her fingers, Konoha tries to do the math with the equivalent of... absolutely no formal education, abandoning it halfway to just shrug and grope for a different reference.]

[ Doumeki nods. He can see how it would be confusing, though saying "Heisei 20" might not help if you don't know when Heisei started. Guess the Emperor never planned for people to be able to talk to time-travelers, who'd've thunk. ]

400 years sounds correct. Things have changed a lot.

[ He's not the best at math, either. It could be under or over, all he remembers is when it started and when it ended tbh. His height seems like an easier topic, even if she's taller than him. ]

My height is rare. Most people are only about this tall.

[ He motions to around his neck. Sure, there are some taller guys in his family, but there aren't a lot of short people in the yakuza, either.

[If it’s one thing Konoha is positive of after talking to people on Lunatia... It’s that future Japan definitely changed a lot. Whether she could comfortably imagine her own Japan would end up that way eventually, when no one else she met came from a world with jinba she isn’t sure, but...]

[She corrects herself with a little wave of her hand, still often finding herself slipping into the habit of a village girl where everyone simply just knew everyone else’s circumstance and how the world worked. Explanations, people need context!]

My birth parents died in the wars, but I had people to raise me. They’re just human, is all.

[Quickly glossed over, wars, though the year she claimed to hail from... had certainly seen decades of it. And her guest might see, if he had a keen enough eye, that thanks to that more human upbringing Konoha sometimes moves her equine half in ways far more like mimic of human habits than horse. Like the way she rubs one front fetlock over another in chagrin when she realizes she’s just been yammering about his height in the doorway.]

Goodness, I have you here in the entranceway like some kind of merchant- Come in! I’ll get some tea, you have a seat.

[The upside to growing up in less modern times and working on a lumber yard and construction sites since you were old enough to haul a log is that the farmhouse is a near perfect image of what you’d expect from a 17th century countryside, with a step up from the dirt into the wooden floored house with a place for shoes (and a hoofpick) and most everything but the kitchen (into which Konoha briefly disappears in quest for tea) focused in a single large main room, with a sunken hearth in the center surrounded by cushions, large futons and blankets carefully piled along the wall, and only a few other features like a home altar atop a chest of drawers, a basket of sewing, and simple shelf that seems to contain elementary writing workbooks and a few Lunatian knickknacks.

And on the plus side for taller humans... the ceilings are quite high to accommodate centaur bodies.]

Ah. I understand.

[ He nods. That makes sense. She would have probably been born during the Sengoku period... it's pretty wild to think that he could meet someone who was from way back then. Even if that version of the past apparently has centaurs. ]

[ He bows his head slightly, sliding off his shoes before stepping onto the floors. He hasn't seen a house this traditional in his life, outside of school trips and history lessons, so it's pretty novel even for him. There's no way around it, he stares for a bit, looking up and around at the room before taking a seat on one of the cushions. It's like Doumeki stepped into a different world. ]

Your home is very beautiful.

[Honestly, it's been weird meeting people who... didn't come from worlds that had been wracked by war as far as most people could remember. Thankfully things were peaceful now, but.]

[Konoha's voice calls out from the kitchen, the rather open construction of the home (and her more advanced hearing) meaning that his voice reaches her just fine as the sound of hooves and the clinking of ceramic signals her kitchen activities as she putters about preparing tea and snacks.]

It took us a long time to save up the money... Thankfully we worked for some Prismals on farms out here, and they agreed to lease us part of their land, then there was the building... But I worked on a lumber yard back home, so!

[Now holding a tray with tea and fresh dumplings, Konoha reemerges to lumber to her knees beside her guest, setting down a tea cup with her best green tea brew (holiday gifts were very useful for hospitality) and the plate of mugwort dumplings.]

[ That completely blows him away. For a guy who isn't very expressive, Doumeki has emoted more in the last few minutes that he does on most full days. ]

You have to understand, he's been eating store-bought and konbini food for a long time, so something made from scratch is practically decadent for him. ]

[Largely they opted for the traditional way. Not that she minded, seeing as moving out here in the first place had been to combat their discomfort with modern surroundings and technologies.

As her guest begins to eat, Konoha makes herself comfortable, using her cushion not beneath her belly but wedged beneath an equine shoulder to sort of prop herself up, keeping her human half more upright before she serves herself, cradling a teacup in dark-skinned hands just a shade or two lighter than her bay coat as she smiles in response to his praise.]

My husband is Sanguis as well, and a few other workers on the farm are the same, trying to get through some of the more aggressive urges with work...

[The missing pink is unmissable as a detail, but Konoha's era predated the organization of certain organized crime groups by about a century, and she's more used to small tattoos applied to identify men to the highway gate patrols as indicators of criminality... so she's left just guessing it was the result of an accident or... fight?

And if he was the type to fight...]

But I can't have people fighting on the job. You can spar after if everyone agrees, but. I just need to know that you can control yourself around other Sanguis. I can break up most scuffles between humans, but if my husband is involved I wouldn't be able to separate you probably...

[Humans, sure, she's been knocking heads and keeping men in line on the lumber yard for years, but. A male of her species almost twice her weight and size... Is a lot harder once things escalate.]

[ A sweet, pure woman like this needs to be protected in Doumeki's honest opinion. Even if he doesn't end up working for her and for all that his demeanor remains calm and stoic, he would destroy anyone who dared endanger her peaceful way of life. In other words, yes. ]

[ He gets pretty possessive and territorial, he can see how this might impede with work. However, Doumeki's anger stemmed from a very particular source, and he's not going to be worrying about a married man taking his boss away from him. ]

I understand. [ He bows, leaning forward. ] I will not fight him.

[ Seems the desire to work through aggression was a common thread between them. Picking fights wasn't what got him in trouble with the family, at least. Outside of Sanguis he's able to keep himself calm, if only on the outside. ]

If it is easier, I would avoid working during Sanguis. My boss needs me during this time, my duty to him will always come first.

[Almost automatically, Konoha places her hands delicately on the floor between her forelegs, bowing back in turn and trying not to think "oh, this sort of person would look kind of cute with floppy dog ears".]

If you can control yourself, I don't mind you working during Sanguis... I just wanted to make sure.

[And perhaps it's too trusting, to imply that she'd just take his word for whether he could do that or not, but... he'd know his own capabilities best, wouldn't he? And if she was wrong, well... Then she'd have been wrong, and she'd have addressed it when it came up!]

You have a full-time job as well, then?

[ He has floppy dog ears and a happy, wagging tail, it's very hard to look intimidating for Sanguis. He nods. He's very good at control, at least that's what he would say. ]

I am a bodyguard. My charge is in this world as well.

[ He takes another sip of tea and sighs through his nose, frustration and fondness mixed in equal measure. ]

He sends me away much of the time. Often for several days. [ Which makes being possessive of him... kinda hard. ] I am looking for work to distract me during this time.

[She is going to try so hard not to be rude and ask to touch them... He just looks like a floppy ear dog type of man, if men had... types like that! She thinks to exclaim, impressed as such an important sounding position, but actually... wait-]

That works out for us, since we don't need people every day, but... how can you guard him if you're not... there?

[What a confusing master he seemed to have??? Or, oh no, was it something to do with the moon phases and she'd just unintentionally asked something a bit too lewd or private?]

[ It's ok, he would let her. He likes being less intimidating during Sanguis, even if, emotionally, he's strung tight like a bow when it comes around. But he's definitely a dog-type, it might be part of why he doesn't mind bringing up his changes at all. ]

There is less danger here. His enemies are not in this world.

[ Does he technically need a bodyguard then? Yes. Yashiro is the type who gets into trouble no matter where he is, which is why Doumeki only says "less." ]

He is a very particular person. [ Eccentric, some might say. ] I have taken precautions, but if he orders me to give him space, I must do as I am told.

[Well, being somewhere with less enemies sounded... good. Admittedly, this might be when she's supposed to worry about what kind of person this boss of his was, since having enemies didn't always happen because you were a good person, but... This fellow in front of her right now seemed decent! So she'll give the boss the benefit of the doubt, too.

So she'll take a bit of her own dumpling, chewing for a moment as she listens... and then smiles around a mouth full, speaking but at least polite enough to cover her outh with her hand.]

Doumeki-san sounds like a samurai right now!

[ Thank god she's meeting Doumeki first rather than Yashiro, because meeting Yashiro is an Experience. But he's not a bad person! She would just understand why so many people want to kill him.

Definitely more than a bit like a sassy lord with a loyal samurai. Doumeki nods in agreement. This is quite the compliment! ]
